Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.

Officers say they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.

Police then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.

City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have asked to the residents for details.

A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.

"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
